Our Visit to the Public Library

Took the kids to the public library this morning to check out a few books and drop in on their "Story Time."

Why it was 400 degrees in the basement where they have the kid's section, I'll never quite understand, but the kids enjoyed it anyway.

Ethan was engaged; singing along to the librarian's songs and raising his hand whenever she asked a question of the group of 15 or so kids that ranged from Pre-K to about 3rd grade.  At one point I think he irritated the storyteller a little bit when she asked the kids if they knew what a picture from the book about trucks and construction vehicles she was reading from was and he immediately and correctly answered "A backhoe!"  She gently corrected him to the group that it was called a "digger."

I'm not sure if she thought "backhoe" was too advanced for the group or she was just too prudish to say the word "hoe," but I came close to correcting her correction because he was right.

I let it slide because while that was going on, Kaeleigh was being a trend-setter by taking off her shoes, which led to all of the other kids following suit and taking off their shoes, which led to much consternation and a few glares turned my way by some of the other parents.  She kept trying to set new trends by then putting her sandals back on the wrong feet, but no one else was getting in on that one.

Zachary was bound to me in a Baby Bjorn he's almost too big for and was content to drop Cheerios all over the floor.

Afterward we checked out a few books, which entitled us to a few raffle tickets as part of their summer reading program.  It's a cute little set-up where they have all these different jars on a table that each represent a different prize they could win, and every time they take out a book they get a ticket to put into one of the jars.  At the end of the summer they'll draw a winner from each jar and that person wins that prize basket.  There were ones for stuffed animals and a movie basket that came with popcorn and a candy basket and all sorts of neat stuff for kids.  And then there was one that must have been for the grown-ups: a coffee basket.

Take a guess which one Kaeleigh chose to put her ticket in...

I really hope she wins.
